IBM Bluemix provides various database services, one of them is the Cloudant NoSQL DB. Cloudant provides a REST API and many client libraries to access the service. In the past I've used the Java API Ektorp for other projects. Today I tried how to use this API from XPages which is a JSF based runtime running on IBM Domino.

Today I gave my second presentation at Entwicklercamp in Gelsenkirchen/Germany, a conference with 200 developers focussed on IBM Enterprise Social Solutions. In this session I covered the two previews IBM gave at IBM InterConnectED earlier this year in Orlando - XPages applications on Bluemix and the new Social File Sharing service based on IBM Connections.

In a previous blog post I demonstrated how to use the XPages social enabler to access IBM Connections. At the beginning of this month IBM released the IBM Social Business Toolkit SDK as open source on OpenNTF. The SDK is a general implementation of the same concepts that can also be used by web and Java developers.

One of my favorite features in the public beta of IBM Notes and Domino 9.0 Social Edition is the embedded experience. As in IBM Connections 4 OpenSocial gadgets can be developed to embed custom applications. Additionally the 'generic out of the box URL gadget' can be used to embed any web page.

For the fourth time OpenNTF hosted a development contest. I'm very happy with the outcome! The contest was a big success again with a lot of high quality submissions. The trend that we already observed in the last contest continued. The quality and the functionality of the projects gets better and better.

Activity Stream Service Java API for XPages

We announced recently the new IBM Social Business Toolkit which provides a SDK making it easy for Java and web developers to invoke REST APIs, esp. IBM Connections and IBM SmartCloud for Social Business APIs. As part of the SDK there is a set of Java APIs, e.g. an activity stream service, that can be used by server side JSP/Java code.

Send E-Mails from XPages leveraging the Embedded Experience in IBM Connections Mail

Stefan Sucker from We4IT presented the application framework aveedo. The framework allows defining forms and views in web browsers (without Domino Designer) to build easily custom applications for non IBM Domino customers (via the IBM XWork server).
