Domino is used by, you know, actual business people

I must admit, there are times when I obsess too much about obscure little bugs in features that most people don't use. I own that. But then there are times when issues comes up that are absolutely standard business practice that are still FUBAR, and that makes me angry.

The low code you already know

Over the next few posts, I hope to show some different features of Notes/Domino which actual customers use, both to suggest things you may not have thought of, and to highlight (after the fold) where our software is important even with these native applications. This first comes from an application a customer developed with the lowest of low code.

HCL is doing so many things right, but...

Overall, HCL has been doing a terrific job. They have revitalized Notes/Domino and fixed some longstanding bugs. They have worked with business partners better than IBM has in a long time. They have injected hope and enthusiasm, and have mostly met all the deadlines they've set for themselves. They have shown vision and commitment to future versions, and I see customers responding.

2018 an important year for IBM

I am no expert, so these are my impressions from a slew of outside conversations and insights (right or wrong) gleaned at conferences and on Twitter and Medium. But with those caveats, I think this is going to be a very important year for IBM, as they start to regain profitability and reach the decisive stages of various technologies they have bet on or invested in. These are on no particular order.

With all the talk, whether optimistic, pessimistic or snarky, about Notes/Domino 10, one thing I haven't heard much is what people wish would be in there. Yes, it will be a new version. Yes, it will be a strong affirmation to those companies still using Notes/Domino that product support will be around for the foreseeable future.

This is the seventh in my series, Out Of Notes (see Part 1 - The Challenge, Part 2 - Capsule Views, Part 3 - ePublish from XPages, Part 4 - Linked Collections, Part 5 - To SharePoint and Part 6 - By a Thread), which shows how the Midas Rich Text LSX can be used to create collections of documents for export.

Internet Site Rules and accessibility to videos

I realized that an inherent issue with video tutorials on Notes/Domino and other topics is accessibility. There are people who don't hear well, people who don't understand me easily, and people who don't speak English well enough to understand what I am saying while also trying to follow the logic of my fast-paced tutorials.
